Bengal has a largely dense food culture from the  traditional Bengali Zamindari Thali to the amazing Tangra style Chinese typical of Kolkata , from Anglo Indian style western food, to the flavours of the North East.

The landlords of Bengal lived a life of plenty and were hosts to traders and merchants from across the world, care was taken to ensure that the delicate flavours of different dishes were never mixed and this tradition has prevailed since.

The  thali  at Rajbari Bawali has been curated keeping in mind the Lavish Life of the Zamindar and the  availability of trader produce. Rajbari Bawali is a 300-year-old boutique heritage property that has been elegantly turned into the best luxury heritage resort near Kolkata, and the thali matches that concept.

There’s a romance to food in Calcutta that is inexplicable.

Ask anyone who has spent time in the city and they will tell you of their many favourites from the famous  Kathi rolls to the Biryani with the much fought over aaloo.

In the same view,  the team members at the heritage hotel have created dining experiences that are a delight, delicious and special because of the love with which it is offered.

Just as tourists in Italy make a Beeline for the truffle hunt,  the Indian markets and the myriad of Spices they offer are an amazing dream for tourists to India. Kolkata with the sheer diversity of the cuisine on offer in the city can be the perfect culinary destination.
