Mathol Singh
Manager – Eagle’s Nest
Eagle’s Nest is a homestay owned by India’s football legend, Bhaichung Bhutia at Pangthang, Kyongsa PO Penlong, near Gangtok in Sikkim. Bhaichung Bhutia represented the Indian national team from 1995 to 2011, earning 104 caps and scoring 40 goals.
He wished to start his own Boutique Hotel, Resort, or Premium Homestay in his home state, Sikkim. As well-known Footballer, he has traveled a lot and has come across many beautiful and amazing hotels and resorts within India and abroad that inspired him to start something attractive.
Setting up a homestay in a remote part of Sikkim was not easy. He faced many challenges in terms of getting raw materials for construction and skilled labour, and constructing a private road of almost 300 meters from the main road.
The property has its forest area where pathways are made for guests to walk through. The rooms are surrounded by tropical forest and lush greenery. The unique feature of these rooms is its openable huge glass windows with a beautiful view of mighty Kanchenjunga Mountain. Wooden flooring gives the classy attire of the rooms and it also helps to keep the room warm during the cold season.
We give more emphasis on Local Cuisine, the vegetables are brought from the local market which are purely organic and we do grow a few vegetables in our garden. The special dishes are authentic Bhutanese and Nepali thali.
The unique experiences are the lush green forest spread out over 3 acres of land with nature walkways for guests. All the rooms have a beautiful view of Kanchenjunga Mountain. You could spot some Himalayan birds and animals, and you get to see beautiful seasonal flowers in the property like Orchid, Rhododendron, and Cherry blossom etc depending on the time of your visit.
He would like to build one more Luxurious cottage with a maximum of 4 rooms. He also wants to promote yoga retreats as this is a great place for meditation.
